Where oh where has the time gone…..

5 Sep

Okay so I haven’t been on top of this blog lately.  I can’t believe summer holidays are over and school is back.  I will post next week some pics of the kids first day.  What I won’t post are my tears and nausea the night before.  Why does it feel like I just had these kids last week and now they are in SK and Gr.2.  Long gone are the days of “goo goo gaa gaa” now I hear things like “I am older now I can do it by myself”.  This blows!

Well since this blog is titled “What Angie Made” lets get to the treats I’ve made lately.

My cousin’s financee asked me to make a ruffle cake for a get together she was having with her bridesmaids.  This is what I came up with.  I made a vanilla cake with pink buttercream.  The outside is made with fondant.  I used circular scaloped cutters to make each layer.  I used a wooden skewer to roll over the fondant and make this…..ruffely?  I also made teacups out of gumpaste and filled them with a standard size cupcake which fit perfectly.

I used a large makeup brush, unused, go dust light rose luster dust to give the teacups a blush colour.  I used food writer markers to draw little flowers on the teacups.  I “glued” the cup to the saucer using royal icing.

We celebrated Daniel’s 7th birthday this summer.  June 15th to be exact.  My son is obsessed with Lego, more specifically Batman Lego.  Surprisingly he asked for a Batman Lego cake.  I know, shocking!

This is the cake that I made him…

Batman is at the controls and I did a mock screen showing Joker and Bane that was copied on sugar paper.  Then I have the lego workers spreading the bat cave over the “original” legos on the oposite corner.  I got some candy lego from our local candy store and surrounded the cake with them.

I also had a friend ask me to make some cupcakes to celebrate her nieces granduation.

I made little granduation hat’s on the chocolate cupcakes using mini Reeces pieces and chocolate covered graham crackers.  I made little fondant diplomas and I put fondant tassels on the hats.  For the vanilla cupcakes I did purple buttercream topped with a purple glossed gumball.

My cousin’s fiancee Katy’s B-day took place this summer and I made her an Eiffel Tower cake since she loves all things Paris.

This is before I cleaned it up a bit.  If I had more time and not waited until the night before to start this I would have done my pipping more carefully and I would have used more support for the top of the cake.  She got dinner out of it also so that should have made up for it.

Samantha had a play date  with some of her school friends last week for the last time before school started and I decided to make a little treat for everyone.  I made some apple sugar cookies and some apple gumballs.  I didn’t actually make the gumballs I just used royal icing to make a stem and leaf.  I added a gummy worm to go with the apple theme.

So that’s it for now.  Stay tuned to see What (else) Angie Made.
